FSA & HSA Benefits

Understanding FSA & HSA Benefits for Therapeutic Services

At Oceanflowers Therapeutics in Monterey, we believe healing should be accessible, supported, and well understood. That’s why we’re proud to help clients take advantage of their Flexible Spending Account (FSA) or Health Savings Account (HSA) benefits—many of which can be applied to our therapeutic services with proper documentation.

Who Typically Has FSA or HSA Benefits?
Flexible Spending Account (FSA)

Common among: - Corporate employees (mid- to large-sized companies) - Government workers (federal, state, or municipal) - School district staff (teachers, administrators, support) - Hospital and healthcare professionals - University employees - W-2 employees enrolled in employer-sponsored health plans.

Note: FSA funds are “use-it-or-lose-it” and may expire at the end of the year.

Health Savings Account (HSA)

Common among: - Self-employed professionals - Freelancers and independent contractors - Small
business owners - Employees in tech or startups - Anyone enrolled in a High-Deductible Health Plan
(HDHP)
Note: HSA funds roll over year to year and can be saved for future care.

Who Can Prescribe Therapeutic Services for FSA/HSA Use?

To qualify, your provider must issue a written recommendation or Letter of Medical Necessity. Eligible professionals include:
• Medical Doctors (MD)
• Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine (DO)
• Nurse Practitioners (NP)
• Physician Assistants (PA)
• Chiropractors (DC)
• Dentists (for TMJ or oral-related issues)
• Midwives (for prenatal massage referrals)

The letter should state the condition being treated, a statement of medical necessity, and (if possible) the recommended frequency and duration.
Oceanflowers Therapeutics can provide referral templates and coordinate with your provider to make the process easy and compliant.

Don’t Let Your Benefits Go to Waste

Many people don’t realize they’re contributing to an FSA or HSA through their employer or insurance plan.
If you have an FSA, unused funds often expire at year-end—so it’s truly a “use it or lose it” situation.
Let us help you make the most of your wellness benefits. We’ll walk you through the process and provide the documentation you need.
